YESTERDAY

By Mary Cox

PG-13

A struggling musician (Himesh Patel) who is about to quit because his career is going nowhere realizes he’s the only person on Earth who can remember the Beatles after waking up after being in a coma.

Himesh Patel has a beautiful voice and the arrangements of the music are exactly like the Beatles. I love the Beatles and I loved this movie. I plan to buy the soundtrack. Like “Momma Mia” did for ABBA, “Yesterday” chose the best songs of the Beatles.

Lily James plays Ellie Appleton, Malick’s friend and manager until Kate McKinnon’s character; Debra Hammer eases Ellie out of her position. Ed Sheeran plays himself.

“Yesterday” is a musical comedy directed by Academy Award Winner, Danny Boyle who is won his Oscar for directing “Slumdog Millionaire.”

The screenplay was by Jack Barth and Richard Curtis. The story was created by 62-year-old Jack Barth. Barth had never sold a screenplay before selling the story of “Yesterday,” so there is hope for all first-time screenwriters.

Do not miss this movie. It is fabulous.
