THE PEANUT BUTTER FALCON

By Chris Dugopolski

Rated PG13

Remember when Ben Affleck and Matt Damon won Oscars for the writing of Good Will Hunting? They were two young men in Hollywood at that time. There are two new young men named Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz who wrote and directed an independent movie this year, and they might just get similar attention. The movie is Peanut Butter Falcon. They wrote this movie for their friend, Zack Gottsagen, who has Down Syndrome.

Zack, plays Zak in the movie and he also happens to have Down Syndrome. Zak wants to be a professional wrestler and in order to do so, he escapes from the senior citizen nursing home where he has been placed because he has nowhere else to live.

Others in the movie include Shia LaBeouf, Dakota Johnson, Bruce Dern, and Thomas Hayden Church, but Zack Gottsagen is the star and he handles that role brilliantly. He has a Huckleberry Finn type adventure. The dialogue is real, the acting is superb. It is probably Shia LaBeouf’s best role to date and I would not be surprised to see this movie grab all sorts of awards.

This opens on August 23. Do not miss it!
