Goofy is the only I can think of think of when I think of “Shazam!” It is a silly, stupid movie for teens or comic book junkies and there are a lot of those people out there.
Billy Batson, (Asher Angel), a 15 year old boy is chosen by “The Wizard,” (Djimon Hounsou) to become Shazam, (Zachary Levi).
Billy and his buddy, Freddy Freeman, (Jack Dylan Grazer) are bullied all the time at school but enlists the bullies to help to defeat the enemies trying to destroy the Earth. Where have we seen that before?
Asher and his friends play their parts well and we can expect to see their careers blossom in the future.
Unfortunately, instead of playing the Shazam part straight, Levi plays it as a goofball and it ruined the whole movie for me.
“Shazam!” was directed by David F. Sandburg. The screenplay was written by Henry Gayden based on the story by Gayden and Darren Lemke. The comic was created by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck.
I was bored out of my gourd during this film and battled staying awake.
DC just doesn’t make movies as good as Marvel. Perhaps they should stop trying.
Don’t bother paying for this flick!
