“Office Christmas party uses the “f” bomb liberally and there is a lot of nudity and sex in the film. If you are at all prudish, you would happier renting “It’s A Wonderful Life” or “Meet Me in St. Louis” than going to this film. “Office Christmas Party earned its “R” rating in spades!
That said, the film has some really funny moments and if you don’t mind bad language, drugs, prostitution, nudity and sexual situations, you will find this film mildly entertaining.
The “Office Christmas Party” wastes an excellent cast on mundane writing. The writers have included every cliche you have ever heard about office parties in the film. The screenplay was penned by Justin Malen, Laura Solon and Dan Mazer. The story was created by Jon Lucas, Scott Moore and Timothy Dowling. The old adage, “too many cooks spoil the broth” applies here, but it needs to be amended to: too many writers spoil the film.
When the CEO (Jennifer Aniston) tries to close her hard-partying brother’s branch, he (T.J. Miller) and his Chief Technical Officer (Jason Bateman) must rally their co-workers and host an epic office Christmas party in an effort to impress a potential client and close a sale that will save their jobs.
Bateman and Aniston are joined by Olivia Munn, Bateman’s love interest Tracey Hughes. Kate McKinnon steals all the funny scenes as Mary, the HR Specialist who is a real straight arrow. Courtney B. Vance plays Walter Davies the potential client.
Academy Award Nominee Josh Gordon and Academy Award Nominee Will Speck directed. Why does a film need two directors?
To be sure, “Office Christmas Party” is a dickflick aimed at the 18 to 35 age group. This is not a film for the whole family. In fact I am not sure that I would want my teenagers seeing this film it is so raunchy. Also, as you might have guessed, they destroy the office. Somehow, I didn’t find that aspect of the movie very funny. Someone has to pay for that so I never find destroying property to be that hilarious. It makes me sad.
I would tell you where this is playing but AMC changed their website and it is so difficult to figure out I couldn’t tell if they were going to show “Office Christmas Party” this weekend or not. You will have to call them or figure out their new website on your own.
