MORGAN

R rated

“Morgan” is the biggest waste of time I have spent in a long time. As a movie critic, I feel I have to watch the entire film if I am to give an accurate review but I would have loved to have taken a nap during this stinker. Luckily, the movie only ran an hour and thirty-two minutes.

A corporate risk-management consultant (Kate Mara) must decide whether or not to terminate an artificially created humanoid being, Morgan (Anya Taylor-Joy) after the humanoid acts out.

Anya Taylor-Joy stars in the title role of “Morgan.” Kate Mara is Lee Weathers. Paul Giamatti is Dr. Alan Shapiro. Rose Leslie plays Dr. Amy Menser. Michael Yore is Ted Brenner and Toby Jones is Dr. Simon Ziegler.

Kate Mara is a good actress but was very wooden in this role. I can only blame that on poor direction she received from the Director. People will know her better as Zoe Barnes in “The House of Cards.” Generally, I love Paul Giamatti. Giamatti is an excellent actor, but his role in “Morgan” is so small that he almost gets lost.

The film was written by Seth W. Owen. The plot is so predictable that it is almost insulting to the audience. It was amazing how much violence the writer jammed into just 92 minutes. If I am going to pay $11 for a film, I want two hours of entertainment, thrills and/or excitement. I don’t want to be bored to tears.

This is the first full length film Luke Scott has directed and it may be his last. He did not get the performances out of the actors that he should have.

My suggestion is that instead of wasting money going to this film, you rent “Ex Machina” instead. I think you will be much happier in the long run.

“Morgan” opens Friday at AMC Showplace Edwardsville 12
