ISN’T IT ROMANTIC Review

ISN’T IT ROMANTIC

By Kathy Kaiser

Talk about a funny and delightful viewing experiencing…ISN’T IT ROMANTIC takes us into the life of young Natalie (Alexandra Kis), who is swept off her feet by the blissfulness, joy and “happy endings” that the romantic comedies she’s viewing, provide. But it seems that the all-grown-up Natalie (Rebel Wilson) has acquired a much more sinister view of romance, and these disgustingly pointless films…as her love-life hasn’t quite played out as those films of yesteryear promised it would…

And then, as fate would have it, a freak accident forces Natalie to live out her day-to-day life “In” a romantic comedy, and it seems that this life changing turn of events, is becoming almost more than she can bare…

I give ISN’T IT ROMANTIC a rating between MUST SEE ON THE BIG SCREEN and WAIT AND CATCH THIS FILM ON DVD! Whether it’s the fact that this film manages to poke fun of itself from the start, or that it incorporates sooooo many romantic comedy elements throughout from previous romantic comedies that we all know, and love, ISN’T IT ROMANTIC turns into hilarious FUN and amusement, the whole way through! Wilson is enchanting, as Director Todd Strauss-Schulson actually lets her be calm, cool, and somewhat collected within this romantic comedy exchange, making me oh so happy that she wasn’t forced to be the ultimately annoying character she had to play in all the PITCH PERFECT Films. I also very much enjoyed the chemistry between Wilson’s character, and her leading men, Blake (Liam Hemsworth) and Josh (Adam Devine). And what would the slightly-less-than-perfect rom com be without a subpar assistant, but super BFF Whitney (Betty Gilpin), the perfect gay neighbor/Friend Donny (Brandon Scott Jones) and the ultra-gorgeous rival for her men’s affections Isabella (Priyanka Chopra) and you one perfectly casted, pretty humorous film. And from the trailer, you might have felt like I, that this film seems rather reminiscent of 2018’s I FEEL PRETTY, but let me ease your mind with the fact that besides hitting her head, the premise of this film is totally different throughout. But, I must also add at this juncture too, ISN’T IT ROMANTIC doesn’t hold a candle to how enjoyable it was to view as I FEEL PRETTY either, as that film made it into my TOP 15 of 2018, I enjoyed it sooooo much, thus forcing me to give ISN’T IT ROMANTIC this slightly less than perfect review…
