Vulgarity rules out in this mindless romp through Roosevelt High School where the students are so unmanageable and the teachers are so bizarre that your senses reel from the crass stupidity of the entire film.
I don’t understand why people think the F-Bomb is funny, but the writers of this film think it is funny and the audience agreed. I am not a prude but enough is enough. It must be used 100 times or more throughout the movie. There were some funny moments in the film but they were few and far between.
On the last day of the school year, mild-mannered high school English teacher Andy Campbell is trying his best to keep it together amidst outrageous senior pranks, a dysfunctional administration and budget cuts that are putting his job on the line just as his wife is expecting their second baby.
Things go from bad to worse when Campbell crosses the school’s toughest and most feared teacher, Ron Strickland, causing Strickland to be fired. To Campbell’s shock—not to mention utter terror—Strickland responds by challenging him to a fist fight after school.
Charlie Day and Ice Cube star as the two battling teachers, Andy Campbell and Ron Strickland. Tracy Morgan is Coach Crawford. Jillian Bell is the love starved teacher in love with one of her students. Christina Hendricks is the lascivious Ms. Monet. Dean Norris is Principal Tyler.
“Fist Fight” was directed by Richie Keen. This is Keen’s first full length feature film. He has a rich background in directing television comedies like “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “The Goldbergs”.
The screenplay for the film was penned by Van Robichaux & Even Susser. The story was by Robichaux &Susser and Max Greenfield.
People who are not offended by bad language, violence and sexual innuendo will enjoy this film because there are some funny moments. If you love the Seth Rogen type of mindless vulgar comedies, this is the film for you. If not, stay far, far away.
“Fist Fight” is opening Friday at AMC Showplace Edwardsville 12, AMC Eastgate Showplace 6 and Dougherty’s Jerseyville Stadium.
