“Bridget Jones’s Baby” is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time. I rarely laugh out loud at a movie but I roared during this one as did everyone else in the audience, especially the women. Although there are some sexual scenes and the f-bomb and other profanity are used somewhat liberally, this is a very funny movie for those who like to go to the movies to be entertained.
Oscar® winner Renée Zellweger and Oscar® winner Colin Firth are joined by Patrick Dempsey for the second sequel of the world’s favorite Brit in “Bridget Jones’s Baby.” The original cast returns. Gemma Jones is Mum. Jim Broadbent plays Dad and Sally Phillips returns as Shazza. Oscar® winner Emma Thompson is Dr. Rawlings.
After breaking up with Mark Darcy (Firth), Bridget Jones’s (Zellweger) “happily ever after” hasn’t quite gone according to plan. Forty-three and single again, she decides to focus on her job as a top news producer.
Then her love life takes a tumble and Bridget meets a dashing American named Jack (Dempsey), the suitor who is everything Mr. Darcy is not. In an unlikely twist she finds herself pregnant, but with one hitch…she has no idea who the father is.
With two gorgeous men at her beck and call, many women would have trouble choosing which man to choose. I went back and forth. Either man would have made a great father for her baby.
“Bridget Jones’s Baby” was directed by Sharon Maguire who also directed “Bridget Jones Diary.”
The screenplay was written by Helen Fielding, Dan Mazer and Emma Thompson based on Helen Fielding’s story and characters.
The music was used effectively. They used specific songs to express Bridget’s feelings. The cinematography was beautiful. The sets and costumes were perfect for Bridget.
Renée Zellweger’s new look really bothered me. I liked her old look better. The old Zellweger was someone I could relate to, but this new woman is just a run-of-the-mill looking actress. She really messed up when she went under the knife. The irony is that she doesn’t look younger; she just looks different. I’m just saying she should have done a little nip and tuck while she was at it.
“Bridget Jones’s Baby” opens Friday at AMC Showplace Edwardsville 12 and AMC Eastgate Showplace 6.
