Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

If you love comic book movies you are going to love “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice;” it is two and one-half hours chock full of madness, murder and mayhem.

Fearing that the actions of Superman (Henry Cavill) are left unchecked, Batman
(Academy Award Winner Ben Afflack) takes on the man of steel. With Batman and Superman fighting each other, a new threat, Doomsday, is created by Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). It’s up to Superman and Batman to set aside their differences along with Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) to stop Lex Luthor and Doomsday from destroying Metropolis.  Amy Adams as Lois Lane provides the love interest.

“Batman v Superman:  Dawn of Justice” is one of those movies cram-packed with all sorts of movie stars.  Diane Lane, Holly Hunter, Kevin Kostner, Jeremy Irons, Laurence and Fishburne all have small roles in this spring blockbuster.

The special effects in this movie are spectacular.  I will be surprised if the special effects in this movie aren’t nominated for an Academy Award; they should be.

The script was written by Chris Terrio and David S. Goyer based on the character of Batman created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and the character of Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.  The script was about a half hour too long.  I think it would have been a much better story if they had tightened up the script a bit.  They could have cut 15 to 20 minutes out of the movie and no one would have noticed.

In other Superman movies, Lex Luther is the villain too but he is usually funny.  In this film, Lex is a psychopath totally lacking humor.  In fact Jesse Eisenberg seemed to be slurring his words so much that it was hard to figure out what he was babbling about most of the time.

Also, they needed to tone down the sound.  My ears rang for 20 minutes after I left the theater.  Another gentleman said he left 30 minutes early because his ear hurt but that could have been more about the movie house than the film itself.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” was directed by Zack Snyder (“Man of Steel,” “300,” and “Dawn of the Dead.”)

Every man in the movie, except Superman, looks like they really need a shave. On
young men that is an attractive look; on old men it looks like they have dirty faces.

“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” opens Friday at AMC Showplace Edwardsville 12 and AMC Eastgate Showplace 6.
