ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD
By Mary Cox
“All the Money in the World” is based on the true story of the kidnapping of the grandson of J.Paul Getty, the richest man in the World, in 1973 in Rome, Italy. Originally, the movie was filmed with Kevin Spacey as J. Paul Getty. When he was accused of molesting 15 boys over the years, all his scenes were cut and replaced with Academy Award Winner Christopher Plummer. Knowing this, I thought the Spacey role must have been very small. That was not the case; J. Paul Getty was on screen a lot.
Plummer is fantastic. He has been nominated for a Golden Globe as a supporting actor in a drama. Although Spacey is an excellent actor, this role was made for Plummer.
4-time Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams, who plays the mother of the kidnapped grandson, J. Paul Getty III, has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance. Williams has another movie that came out last week, “The Greatest Showman” with Hugh Jackman. The two roles couldn’t be different. In “The Greatest Showman” she sings and dances and in “All the Money in the World” she is the distraught mother battling her stingy ex-father-in-law who refuses to provide the money to release his grandson.
